ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
-Designs, writes instructions, and runs lab scale organic synthesis batches. Develops scope of process variables needed to ensure product quality.
-Evaluates existing plant batch chemical processes, understands all chemistry aspects of the batches, and determines experiments to improve batch quality, cost, or cycle time.
-Runs a variety of laboratory analysis needed to fully describe the in-process and final specification of the products.
-Supervises Pilot Plant operation to ensure adherence to the process variables.
-Writes batchcards for Pilot Plant and full-size Production equipment.
-Collaborates directly with Production Operators to determine process operating parameters. Collects and analyzes chemical process data as needed to optimize processes.
-Facilitate the technical transition of new and modified processes to provide improved results.
-Collaborates with R&D group to develop new analytical techniques as needed.
-Provides detailed lab and Pilot Data analysis. Provides detailed process calculations where necessary.
-Leads and/or participates in incident and CCA investigations in a team environment utilizing sound root cause analysis methods to develop and implement effective corrective and preventative solutions.
-When applicable, leads the MOC process to introduce new equipment or processes and participates in PHAs where needed.
-Follows all plant safety rules. Adheres to applicable EPA regulations for proper labeling and disposal of chemical compounds and waste.
-Performs other related duties as assigned. 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
-Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry. Also acceptable is  equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training and /or work experience. 
-Minimum of 5 years of experience in process development and commercial manufacturing environment
-Word processing, spreadsheet software, DOE.

COMPETENCIES
-Strong communication skills
-Experience in analytical techniques, including GC, GPC, FTIR, and HPLC. Familiarity with wet chemistry analytical techniques.    
-Ability to design formal Design of Experiments.    
-Ability to perform higher level math skills involving various detailed engineering and statistical calculations
-Experience in operating lab or Pilot Scale equipment.
-Experience in designing and executing projects 
-Must be self-motivated and goal-oriented with proven success working independently and in a multi-functional team environment.
-Able to manage multiple projects
